Street

While walking through the city of Melbourne I am always drawn to the graffitied alleys and small cramped streets that are adjacent to the main roads. I find whenever I look around there is always a little secret spot waiting to be found. To me, these places feel nostalgic as they are often filled with music whether that is through speakers or by buskers. Growing up I was surrounded by rock and metal music as my dad is a drummer so now hearing these sounds brings me great comfort. I also am intrigued with the people who occupy these spaces. They are mostly alternative people making their mark on the world through fashion and appearances that don’t fit the norm. Many times, they can make the greater society uncomfortable but to me I feel at home as there is no judgement. Throughout Melbourne there are many areas that have been stamped by rebellion such as sticker bombed bollards or street art. As I stand in these areas, I feel immersed in the culture by the music filled streets, the Dr. Martens shoes and the sense of true authenticity.
